The German Embassy in Accra has announced that the
third German African Business Summit (GABS) will be hosted by Ghana from
February 11 to 13 next year.
Germany’s Ambassador to Ghana, Christoph Retzlaff,
revealed this yesterday at a news conference in Accra.
He said the summit is expected to be attended by
more than 750 high-ranking representatives from business and politics from
Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa.
“GABS is the German signature business event in
Africa. GABS is organized by the Sub-Saharan Initiative of German Business
(SAFRI),” he said.
He said “top business and government leaders from
Germany and Sub-Sahara Africa meet every two years in Africa to promote
economic relations between Europe’s largest economy, and the fastest growing
region in the world. Up to 750 leaders, decision-makers and business
representatives are expected to participate.”
The ambassador said that business leaders, who will
get the opportunity to attend the summit, will meet and build networks, as well
as gather information on economic development, business opportunities, finance,
digitalization and start-ups, etc.
He said they are also expected to gain insights on “current
development and future potential for German-African business relations German
African Business Summit (GABS).”
“The German African Business Summit (GABS) is
Germany’s signature business event in Africa. At the GABS, top business and
government leaders from Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa meet every two years in
Africa to discuss and promote economic relations between Europe’s largest
economy and the fastest-growing region in the world,” he said.
“The GABS 2019 in Accra is where German and African
business interests meet, where economic partnerships between Germany and
Sub-Saharan Africa are strengthened, and where business trends and market
opportunities are explored.”
“The Sub-Saharan Africa Initiative of German
Business (SAFRI) is the voice of German business to policy-makers in Germany
and the Sub-Saharan African region. The objective of SAFRI is to intensify
cooperation with the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa and foster mutual trade
and investment. SAFRI is supporting the dialogue between German and African
business and industry, providing a platform of exchange for German and African
partners.”
SAFRI is a joint initiative of leading business
federations – the German-African Business Association (AV), Federation of
German Industries (BDI), Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services
(BGA) and Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK).
The GABS is chaired by the SAFRI Chairman, Prof Dr
Heinz-Walter Große, chairman of the Board of B. Braun Melsungen AG.
