Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Yaw Akrasi Sarpong threw decency to the wind when he told New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe to give him “a fucking break” on a live radio programme.
Following his recent claims that his outfit has intelligence reports that politicians used money accrued from drugs business to run campaigns in the country more and more people particularly members of the NPP who have described Mr. Akrasi Sarpong’s comment as propaganda aimed at pleasing the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), of which he is a member.
For instance, NPP National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey challenged the NACOB boss to provide evidence to support his claims and avoid speaking loosely while Nana Obiri Boahene, a former Minister of State at the Ministry of Interior under Ex-President John Kufuor, described Mr. Akrasi Sarpong’s comment as "unpalatable and irresponsible".
As if that was not enough, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe who served as Ghana’s Ambassador to Serbia under Ex-President Kufuor called for the head of Mr. Akrasi Sarpong for talking loosely and not providing a shred of evidence of politicians who were aiding drug barons.
An incensed Akrasi Sarpong reacting to Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe’s challenge exploded on Asempa FM and said the NPP man is a “shameless” person who should “give me a fucking break”.
He said he is not bothered by what Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe and others think about him since he says he is aware that his position as NACOB boss is not a permanent one and added that as a pharmacist, he was capable of securing a job if he was sacked from the board.
“As for whether I deserve this post or not, it has nothing to do with this. I am a pharmacist so if they want me to proceed on leave, I can leave. I know this is not a permanent job or position and indeed no experienced person comes here and stays for long…Mr. Quantson, Gen. Baiden, Mr. Ayalingo (all former NACOB Executive Secretaries), have all served their duties and they were more experienced than me, but it is the President’s wisdom that I am here not his (Tamakloe’s) choice,” he emphasized angrily.
Mr. Akrasi Sarpong then started making direct personal comments by accusing Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe of initiating behind the scenes moves to have his son Ellis Tamakloe who is serving jail term for attempted exportation of cannabis released.
“He is a shameless person, has he forgotten the time when his son’s name was smuggled into the list of people that were going to be released or freed? Has he forgotten the person behind the scene? Your son has been jailed and you go begging people and contacting people asking as if they can help his son out; he should give me a fucking break…I mean he should give me a break,” he fumed.
He made it clear that Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe’s son will never be released but serve the full term in prison and asked the Dr. Tamakloe to wait till his government comes to power so he can take over the narcotics board and free his son.
