The police constable who was shot recently by the girlfriend of
Ghallywood boss William Nana Awuku Akuffo at Sege after a road rage is asking
for justice.
According to General Constable Felix Nettey, the girlfriend Rynie-Lt
Simons aka Eva Tetteh who shot him, leaving him with a life-threatening damage is
walking free together with Nana Akuffo whilst he endures perpetual pain.
Nana Akuffo who is the Director of Ghallywood Academy of Film Acting
and his girlfriend spent about a month in detention after they were charged
with nine counts of attempt to commit murder, use of offensive weapon, abetment
and transferring fire-arm without authority following the incident.
However, they were granted bail by a District Magistrate Court,
Accra presided over by Worlanyo Kotoku on August 13 and the case appeared to
have stalled ever since.
According to Constable Nettey, the prosecution at the last
adjournment told the court that they were forwarding the case docket to the
Attorney General’s Department for advice before the case was adjourned until September
15.
The policeman was on duty at the Ada Rural Bank in Sege when he
escaped death together with two others after Nana Akuffo’s girlfriend fired a
weapon following a road rage.
He was shot in the left thigh, while a civilian staff of the Ghana
Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Joe Fudzi, was also shot in his right
rib, causing them to bleed profusely.
Nana Akuffo and the girlfriend were said to be obstructing traffic
with their yellow Hummer vehicle registered Vino 1-11 around the bank which
generated confusion between him and the GPRTU official.
Constable Nettey, who was on guard duty at the bank intervened to
resolve the matter and ensured free flow of traffic and when he got to the scene,
the Ghallywood boss was allegedly seen threatening the GPRTU worker.
Suddenly, without any
provocation, the girlfriend allegedly took the gun from the car and fired a
shot at the GPRTU man who was having an augment with the Ghallywood boss and the
policeman was said to have become alarmed and shot at the tyre of the
Ghallywood boss’ vehicle but the lady again fired a shot, hitting the thigh of
the policeman.
Nana Akuffo managed to escape with the deflated car tyre together with
the lady to the school where police personnel from the Ada Divisional Police
Headquarters, together with their counterparts from the mounted a search on the
Tema-Aflao highway leading to their arrest at Dawa, a community near Sege.
The 27-year-old student and the 67-year-old director of the defunct
movie school were initially placed in custody at the Tema Regional Police
Command before the case was transferred to the police Headquarter in Accra for
further investigations.
The girlfriend was said to have initially escaped arrest while
possessing the pistol purportedly used but she later surrendered herself to the
police for arrest together with the blue pistol while Nana Akuffo was arrested later in the evening
same day.
