General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, says if the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is looking for a mole they should look no further than the founder of their party, Jerry John Rawlings.

“If criticism is the yardstick by which NDC determines what a mole is, then the real mole the NDC should be concerned with is their own loose canon; founder Jerry John Rawlings,” Greenstreet said in reaction to a recent NDC attack on the CPP National Youth Organiser, Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly called Kabila over the STX housing deal.

The NDC Propaganda Secretary, Richard Quashigah had accused Kabila of being a mole of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), following the latter’s decision to take the STX deal to court for interpretation.

Kabila, on Monday August 2, 2010 had filed a suit at the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the controversial STX Housing Project between the Government of Ghana and a Korea construction firm STX Korea. He sought, among other reliefs, a declaration that the deal was null and void.

The NDC, in a statement issued and signed by Richard Quashigah, had said “the NDC has observed the utterances, association and action of Mr. Bomfeh over the last three years, one is amply convinced that he is being used by the NPP to create the impression that they are not alone in the unreasonable effort of preventing a project that is intended to benefit the larger interest of Ghana.”

The NDC expressed ‘surprise’ that the CPP National Youth Organizer had gone to the Supreme Court with the aim of preventing Parliament from approving what it called a ‘pro-poor’ STX Housing Project.

Responding, Mr. Greenstreet said “the NDC founder is the greatest critic of His Excellency the President and in a most shameful and disgraceful manner.
“NDC, please wake up and stop embarrassing the President by your endless gaffes and vile propaganda. Your Better Ghana is being endangered and your honeymoon period is most definitely over. Leave Kabila alone.

“The CPP would like to make it absolutely clear that it considers recent remarks by the Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, suggesting that the CPP National Youth Organizer is a mole for the New Patriotic Party as totally baseless and without foundation,” Greenstreet stated.

“In this regard, we urge the NDC to behave like a party in government. They should stick to defending their policy decisions without resorting to personal accusations casting false slurs on people’s characters that are worthy of legal redress,” the statement added.
