At the roadshow in Accra yesterday, Nokia, apart from the loT, was able to display innovative projects like Small Cells, which it said increases network capacity, FastMile which allows the telecoms to use LTE radio technology, IP Backhaul which ensures flexibility to deliver best customer experience, SDN which has capabilities for clouds, CEM to maneuver complex network environment, as well as Transport which creates high-speed network.

Deputy Minister of Communications, Ato Sarpong who opened the roadshow, also used the occasion to celebrate Nokia’s 151 anniversary as a company.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the creation of an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

He said the government was aware that there can never be accelerated development without making technology the mainstay of the process, saying “the way to go for us is to embrace technology and use it as part of our lives.”

The national fibre optics initiative is being pursued and the eastern corridor projects have been completed and we are looking for funds to start the western section for the country to get the “entire loop,” he added.

The Ambassador of Finland to both Ghana and Nigeria Ms. Pirjo Soumela-Chowdhury, said Ghana has a great investment potential and many Finnish businesses were exploring the opportunities available.

She said Nokia has become a big part of the Finnish and global success story, adding that the company was continuously exploring ways to make life better.
Ramy Hashem, Country Senior Officer for Nokia in Ghana, said they were determined to show the telecom sector how to meet the ever-increasing demand for network capacity, speed and coverage and improve the customer experience with high-quality and secure networks.

“Ghana is an important market for Nokia. This is the first innovation roadshow Nokia brings to Ghana for the country’s socio-economic benefits. We see this as an opportunity for the Ghana ICT market to benefit from our state-of-the-art technologies and concepts to transform telecoms networks to be more dynamic, agile and evolving.”

He said the series of technology roadshows in Africa had been designed according to the different market needs to meet the growing demand for data intensive applications and prepare for the next wave of network development, including cloud, loT and ultra broadband networks.
